Student Volunteers (18+)

Please complete volunteer process in the following order:

  1. Complete the online orientation. 
  2. Complete the Security & Confidentiality Form.
  3. Obtain copies of medical records verifying the following:
    • Measles/Mumps/Rubella: Documentation of two (2) measles/mumps/rubella vaccinations or serological (laboratory testing) proof of immunity to measles and rubella (German measles)
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox): Verification of having Chicken Pox through medical documentation of the disease OR documentation of two varicella vaccinations.
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series. Required for those interested in volunterring the the Emergency Room, Operating Room, or Dental Clinics.

    Flu Shot Requirements
    Influenza vaccinations are required for all UF Health volunteers. Proof of vaccination must be brought to your placement appointment. Flu vaccines are required for spring and fall semesters.

    • UF Students are able to receive free flu shots from the Student Health Care Center (UF Infirmary).
    • If you are not a UF Student, you can receive a flu shot from Occupational Health. Proof of the immunization must be brought to Volunteer Services.
    • Flu shots received at other community locations (doctors office, Walgreens, CVS, etc.) will also be accepted with proof of vaccination.
  4. Complete an Online Volunteer Application.
  5. Schedule a Placement Interview online through our Volunteer Information Center.
    • Interested applicants for Summer MUST schedule a Placement Interview online. Placement interviews CANNOT be made by phone, email, or in person. 
    • To make scheduling easier, know which Placement Interviews you are able to attend before trying to schedule.
    • You may only schedule one placement appointment per volunteer. 
    • When all the Placement Interviews are full your name will automatically be added to our waiting list.
    • All interviews are held around the corner from the UF Health Shands Volunteer Services office, located on the Ground floor of UF Health Shands Hospital in room G083. Take the Atrium elevators to the ground floor, and follow the signs. 
  6. Obtain Occupational Health Clearance
    Pick up the Tuberculosis (TB) Surveillance and Service Record form from UF Health Shands Volunteer Services. Take the form along with your immunization records (see the bullet below) to Occupational Health (Room 1004) between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Clearance from Occupational Health must be done PRIOR to your Placement Interview. 

What to bring to your Interview/How to Dress

  • The completed  Security & Confidentiality Form.
  • UF Health Shands Hospital Online Orientation certificate of completion.
  • Service Record form with Occupational Health Services clearance signatures.
  • Copy of your immunization record to include:
    • Measles/Mumps/Rubella: Documentation of two (2) measles/mumps/rubella vaccinations or serological (laboratory testing) proof of immunity to measles and rubella (German measles)
    • Varicella (Chicken Pox): Verification of having Chicken Pox through medical documentation of the disease OR documentation of two varicella vaccinations.
    • Hepatitis B vaccine series (required for ED, OR and Dental Clinics.)
  • Proof of flu vaccine ( required only for spring and fall)
  • Your new semester schedule (so you are able to verify when you are free to volunteer weekly!).
  • Dress: Out of respect for our patients and their families we ask that you not wear shorts, tank tops, gym clothes, and midriff baring tops.

Parking

In order to provide parking for our patients and their guests, our garages are closed to UF students, faculty and staff. Please utilize your normal methods of transportation to campus. I.e. busing, biking, walking.
