University of Florida Health is part of the University of Florida, one of the nation’s Top 10 public universities for the past eight years, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings. It is unique for its diverse constellation includes main campuses in Gainesville and Jacksonville, plus regional sites in The Villages and St. Augustine. It employs more than 33,800 faculty and staff at more than 140 physician practices and outpatient care centers throughout Central and North Florida.

UF Health is headquartered in Gainesville, where the colleges, several hospitals and most of the research centers and institutes are located. UF Health also operates an academic health center in Jacksonville.

From the time of the health center’s founding in 1956, UF Health has operated as a single academic enterprise dedicated to professional training and introducing knowledge to safeguard the health of Florida’s citizens. UF Health encompasses the Gainesville-based colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine. It also comprises the UF Health Shands hospitals, UF Health Jacksonville hospitals, UF Health Flagler Hospital, UF Health Central Florida hospitals and UF Health Ocala Neighborhood Hospital.

UF Health has an academic campus in Jacksonville that is home to the UF College of Medicine – Jacksonville and includes degree programs offered by the colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy. The colleges span undergraduate, professional students and advanced postdoctoral students. Between academic education and hands-on training, UF Health is building Florida’s future health care workforce.

The UF Health family encompasses two major academic hospital systems, UF Health Shands in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville, each with a state-designated Level 1 trauma center and an emergency air and ground transport program serving neonatal, pediatric and adult patients. It also includes UF Health Leesburg Hospital and UF Health Spanish Plaines Hospital in Central Florida as well as UF Health Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine.

UF Health Shands Hospital includes five specialty hospitals and a new neighborhood hospital in Ocala. A $90 million expansion of UF Health Jacksonville’s trauma center is underway, as are plans for a large-scale UF venture into downtown Jacksonville, building onto UF Health’s current academic offerings, with degrees to be offered in areas such as business administration, engineering management, law and AI in biomedical and health sciences. UF Health Jacksonville broke ground in 2025 on its fourth 24-hour Emergency and Urgent Care Center in the region.

UF Health also has a network of outpatient rehabilitation centers, two home health agencies, and physician practice locations throughout Central and North Florida as well as Southeast Georgia. UF Health has a robust statewide presence, with satellite medical, dental and nursing practices and affiliations with community-based health care facilities stretching from Miami to the Florida Panhandle. UF Health is home to a small animal hospital and a large animal hospital in Gainesville and a third animal hospital in Ocala.
