Biography
C. Parker Gibbs, MD earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the University of Florida in 1989 before going on to complete his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Colorado and his fellowships in Orthopaedic Oncology and Research at the University of Chicago. He served as director of Musculoskeletal Oncology at the University of Colorado from 1997-2002. He returned to the University of Florida in 2003 to work in the Department of Orthopaedics where he is now a tenured professor. He was named the Eugene Jewett Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2011 and serves as the Chief of the Division of Musculoskeletal Oncology and director of the Orthopaedic Oncology laboratory. Dr. Gibbs is currently the Chief Medical Officer for UF Health and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs in the College of Medicine.
Dr. Gibbs' clinical research and practice revolves around the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities and pelvis in both children and adults. He has authored 75 scientific manuscripts and numerous book chapters. Dr. Gibbs has served as the principal investigator on R21 and R01 awards from the NIH/NCI supporting his work on intra-tumoral heterogeneity in Osteosarcoma and its relationship to tumor initiating cells and reversible malignant potential.
Gibbs has served as an officer in the Connective Tissue Oncology Society and the Musculoskeltal Tumor Society. He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society and has served as an oral examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
