About me
I was driven to the medical field after losing my father to cancer at a young age. That loss showed me early on how deeply a cancer diagnosis affects patients and their families. I began practicing medicine in Rwanda before training here in the United States. These experiences taught me the importance of a patient’s understanding of their diagnosis and trust in their care team, both of which are vital to shaping their path through treatment.
As a UF Health medical oncologist, I want to understand my patients and what matters most to them. In addition to providing world-class cancer care and working in clinical trials, I want to study and improve the experience of navigating cancer care itself; how patients understand their diagnosis and treatment, how well they’re supported along the way and how new approaches to communication can help close the gaps that too many patients still face.
My research interests include conducting clinical trials in genitourinary cancers to bring patients new treatment options. I’m also interested in the broader experience of navigating cancer care, particularly understanding and closing the gaps between patients' questions and the answers or support they receive.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading, running (Gainesville thunderstorms permitting) or trying out a new recipe in the kitchen. I also love spending time with my family, especially while exploring new places together.
