My bio
Hello, my name is Dr. Anthony Sorrentino. I am an assistant professor of medicine in the University of Florida Division of General Internal Medicine with a joint appointment in the Department of Health Outcomes & Biomedical Informatics, where I serve as the chief medical information officer of the OneFlorida+ Data Trust.
I was born and raised in Ocala, Florida, and earned both my bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and my medical degree from UF. I completed residency training in internal medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University before pursuing a fellowship in clinical informatics at Duke University Health System.
I was inspired to become an internal medicine physician after witnessing firsthand how illness can shape a person’s life. Sickness can unite families and communities as they rally around a loved one. I have also seen the lasting, positive impact a good physician can have on a patient and their family long after their body is healed.
As an internal medicine physician, I value the ability to care for the whole person rather than focusing on a single organ system. My favorite part of my job is walking alongside patients and their families through the challenges of illness. I take pleasure in helping people understand and navigate the complexities of health care so they can return to the things they care about most. As a clinical informatician, I am passionate about using technology to rehumanize medicine. I aim to utilize clinical data to foster patient-centered care.
My clinical interests span several areas within internal medicine, with a particular focus on cardiovascular disease prevention, chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure. As a provider, I strive to place each patient's medical care within the context of what matters most to them. Health care should serve the goal of human flourishing.
I am passionate about combining my background in medicine and technology to improve patient care and help shape the future of health care. As the chief medical officer of the OneFlorida+ Data Trust — a large, health data repository — I help researchers answer important clinical questions using electronic health records data to improve patient care. Beyond internal medicine, I enjoy hiking, indoor rock climbing, spending time with my family and delving into Thomistic philosophy and Catholic spirituality.
