My bio

Hello, my name is Brandon Janssen, MD, and I am an assistant professor in medicine at the University of Florida Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, and I am a faculty member within the Department of Lung Transplant at UF Health. I am board certified in internal medicine, receiving specialized training in pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and lung transplant at the University of Florida.

I initially started my journey in medicine as a paramedic in Arkansas, which led to various experiences including roles as a professional firefighter-paramedic and as a critical care flight paramedic. As a flight paramedic, I served as base clinical educator and was named regional paramedic of the year for the Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri region and served on various internal committees. In 2012, I founded a private education company wherein I developed and administered a comprehensive education program on drug assisted intubation for paramedics throughout Arkansas.

I eventually chose to pursue a career in medicine and returned to academics at the University of Arkansas where I completed my bachelor’s degree where I graduated summa cum laude and was granted the Fulbright Honors College Research Grant. I obtained my medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia and completed both my internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Florida. During fellowship, I received dedicated training in lung transplantation, which is my specific career and academic focus.

I live in a bilingual home and I am actively learning Spanish.
