My bio
Cathy Silloway, LCSW, ACHP-SW is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker on the palliative consult service at UF Health. She has over 39 years of medical social work experience, including over 25 years of work in palliative and hospice care. Prior to her experience in palliative and hospice years, she worked in a community hospital setting as a medical social worker.
Cathy earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree at Kean University in Union, NJ and obtained her Master of Social Work degree at Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City. She obtained her Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Social Work Certification in 2009. Her many years of hospice experience were completed as the Clinical Social Worker serving the patients and families in the Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville, FL. Cathy’s clinical expertise includes grief and bereavement counseling, advance directive teaching, advanced care planning and patient case management. She also has been an educator to families and patients on end-of-life issues which include understanding end of life signs and symptoms as well as the importance of seeking closure and acceptance, while living with a life-limiting illness.
Cathy has supervised social work students and interns in the role of the palliative social worker and is a Clinical Supervisor to social workers as they are preparing to become licensed practitioners. She is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers, Florida Society of Oncology Social Workers and Social Work Hospice and Palliative Care Network.
