My bio
My name is Dr. Dhaval Naik and I am an assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine at UF Health. I am board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, and also received board certification in lipid disorders to become a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.
My areas of clinical and research interest are the prevention of heart disease and managing hyperlipidemia. Also known as high cholesterol, hyperlipidemia is a condition where too many lipids, or fats, are in the blood. Left untreated, hyperlipidemia can create fatty plaque buildup in arteries that can lead to heart attack, stroke, carotid artery disease, and peripheral artery disease. I work with my patients to manage their high cholesterol to prevent and mitigate these outcomes through medical treatment, diet, and exercise.
I also specialize in the care of patients with valvular heart disease and ventricular dysfunction and have expertise in advanced imaging of the heart, especially echocardiography and stress tests.
I am a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and have been a faculty member of the University of Florida since 2020. My education includes a diploma in mechanical engineering from Government Polytechnic in Gujarat, India and an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in bioengineering from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. Following that, I earned my doctorate at the Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, where I was awarded an Outstanding Achievement Award in the specialty of internal medicine. I then completed my residency in internal medicine and fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
One area of my position that I particularly enjoy is working with and educating students, residents, and fellows. I am honored to have been recognized for excellence in medical education, including being named Attending of the Year by the cardiovascular fellows in the Department of Medicine.
I am proficient in reading and writing in Hindi and Guajarati, and in my time away from work I enjoy hiking at national parks and am interested in sports, such as cricket.
