About me
Hi, I’m Dr. Eric Yates Pruitt. I’m a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where I’ve been training since 2016. I completed five years of general surgery training before starting my specialty training in heart and lung surgery in 2021. I also earned a graduate certificate in precision and genomic medicine because I believe in using the latest science to give patients the best care possible.
I earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in biology and one in marine science, at the University of Miami. Afterward, I went to medical school at UF.
Throughout my training, I’ve worked on research to improve care associated with heart, lung and vascular surgery. I’ve published in several medical journals and contributed chapters to textbooks. I’ve also had the honor of presenting my work at national medical meetings. One of the things I enjoy most is helping other students learn, whether by leading journal clubs, giving talks or helping with residency interviews.
I’m an active member of professional groups, including the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy time with family and friends, staying active and always learning something new. I’m here to listen, help you understand your treatment options and work with you to create a care plan that fits your needs and goals.
