My bio

As a pulmonologist and lung transplant fellow at the University of Florida, I also serve as an Adjunct Clinical Postdoctoral Associate, focusing on advanced lung disease, transplantation, and pulmonary vascular disorders. My work is grounded in evidence-based care and strengthened by a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to complex patient populations.

I completed both my Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Sciences degrees with honors at the Universidad de Costa Rica, followed by Internal Medicine and Pulmonology training at Hospital San Juan de Dios in San José, where I graduated with honors and distinction for my thesis. Before continuing my training in the United States, I worked as a pulmonology attending physician at Hospital Calderón Guardia and Hospital Tony Facio, managing complex respiratory conditions and contributing to the growth of pulmonary care services. Education has been a central part of my career. I have served as a professor of pulmonology at multiple institutions, including the Universidad de Costa Rica, Universidad Internacional de las Américas, and Universidad Iberoamericana, where I have mentored residents and medical students and contributed to curriculum development.

My academic work includes peer-reviewed publications, international presentations, and accepted abstracts focused on lung transplantation and pulmonary disease. I have engaged with global organizations such as the European Respiratory Society and the Latin American Thoracic Association, with research interests spanning pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, and transplant outcomes.

Fluent in Spanish and English, with working proficiency in French, I bring an international lens to patient care, education, and research, and remain committed to advancing pulmonology through innovation, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
