My bio
My name is Dr. Janaki C. Samaraweera and I am an assistant professor of medicine in the division of Geriatric Medicine here at the University of Florida College of Medicine. I completed my undergraduate degree in Microbiology and Cell Science at the University of Florida. I completed my medical degree from St. George’s University. I also have a keen interest in research and completed my research project in Diabetes and Hypertension at Michigan State University. I completed my Family Medicine residency at Texas A&M University in Victoria, Texas. During my training, I gained an interest in the complexity of care and advocacy involved in older adult patients. I completed my fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, College of Medicine.
Having been a former UF alumni, I am glad to be back. My goals it to provide a patient-centered approach to safely improve the quality of life and meet the goals that matter most to my patients and their families. My area of focus is on diabetes, cognitive impairment, hypertension, lifestyle modification, and polypharmacy.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling. I enjoy learning about different cultures and enjoy kayaking and exercising. Most recently I have gained an interest in micro gardening.
