My bio
I'm Joy Cosenza, CNM, APRN, a certified midwife at UF Health. My own journey into midwifery has been a bit unique, as I’ve spent the last eight years working in the maternal fetal medicine division at UF Health’s OBGYN department, primarily caring for women facing high-risk pregnancies.
From the moment I began working with pregnant women and their families, I felt honored to be part of such a significant time in their lives. That experience sparked my passion for women’s health and motivated me to further my education to become a certified nurse midwife.
One common misconception about midwifery is that we only care for women with low-risk, uncomplicated pregnancies. Certified nurse midwives are advanced practice providers trained in gynecology, family planning, and comprehensive prenatal, childbirth, postpartum and newborn care.
What I find most rewarding about being a midwife is the blend of routine care and the complex management of medical conditions for both mothers and their babies. Every day, this work pushes me to expand my knowledge and grow in this specialized field.
