My bio

Hi, my name is Karina Adriana Serban, MD, and I am an associate professor of medicine in the University of Florida Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine. My clinical work focuses on Alpha-1. I am board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.

I completed my Bachelor of Science in physics and mathematics at lancu de Hunedoara High School in Romania. I received my medical degree at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. There, I was also a PhD candidate in clinical research. I completed my pulmonary disease fellowship at the Marius Nasta National Institute of Pulmonary Disease/Pulmonary Disease Program in Bucharest. I continued my education in the United States, where I completed my internal medicine internship and my internal medicine residency at the Chicago Medical School Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science. Finally, I completed my pulmonary critical care fellowship at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in the division of pulmonary, allergy, critical care, and occupational medicine.

I am an active member of some professional organizations like the European Respiratory Society, American College of Chest Physicians, Society of Critical Care Medicine and American Thoracic Society. I also hold a medical license in Florida and Colorado.

Some honors and special recognitions I have received are ATS Resident Travel Award, ATS Travel Award, IUPUI Department of Medicine Fifteenth Annual Resident and Fellow Research Forum Competition - Honorable Mention, the inaugural Gordon L. Snider Scholar Award, NJH Department of Medicine/MOOR Research Retreat Competition – 1st place, ATS Abstract Scholarship and Alpha -1 Antitrypsin Laurell’s Training Award.
