My bio

I am a pulmonologist and lung transplant fellow at the University of Florida, where I also serve as an Adjunct Clinical Postdoctoral Associate. My clinical and academic focus centers on advanced lung disease, transplantation, and pulmonary vascular disorders, with a strong commitment to evidence-based care and multidisciplinary collaboration.

I earned my Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor of Medical Sciences degrees with honors from the Universidad de Costa Rica. I completed my Internal Medicine and Pulmonology residencies at Hospital San Juan de Dios in San José, graduating with honors and distinction for my thesis work. Prior to pursuing advanced fellowship training in the United States, I practiced as a pulmonology attending physician at Hospital Calderón Guardia and Hospital Tony Facio in Costa Rica, where I cared for complex respiratory patients and contributed to the development of pulmonary services.

Alongside my clinical work, I have been deeply involved in medical education, serving as a professor of pulmonology across multiple institutions, including the Universidad de Costa Rica, Universidad Internacional de las Américas, and Universidad Iberoamericana. I have mentored residents and medical students while helping shape curricula in respiratory medicine.

My academic interests are reflected in a portfolio of peer-reviewed publications, international conference presentations, and accepted abstracts in the field of lung transplantation and pulmonary disease. I have participated in leading global forums, including the European Respiratory Society and the Latin American Thoracic Association, with a focus on advancing research on pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, and transplant outcomes.

Fluent in Spanish and English, with working proficiency in French, I bring an international perspective to patient care, research, and education. I am committed to advancing the field of pulmonology through clinical excellence, innovation, and cross-border collaboration.
