About me

TEACHING Dr. Bumbach teaches both undergraduate and graduate nursing courses, with a focus on the DNP program as the FNP Track Coordinator. He is a board-certified FNP with 15 years of clinical practice. Within his teaching assignments, he has explored the integration of technology and AI in nursing education and patient care. Examples include a nurse triage virtual reality communication application, the use of video assessment for physical examination, and simulation for palliative care nursing education. Most recently, he has investigated the application of AI-driven tools to enhance learning outcomes and streamline educational processes.

RESEARCH Dr. Bumbach’s research focuses on the use of advanced technology includng artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing education and other technological methods. Specifically, he examines the use of virtual experiences, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and AI-driven methodologies. The increasing adoption of these technologies in nursing education, patient care, and health literacy necessitates evidence-based research to evaluate their utility and benefits. Dr. Bumbach is dedicated to advancing the understanding of how AI and virtual experiences can improve educational outcomes and patient engagement.

As the fields of nursing and nursing education evolve, the use of virtual experiences and AI is emerging as a major tool for enhancing educational methodologies. Current technology has significantly advanced the functionality of these tools, increasing their potential to complement traditional nursing education. However, there is limited research on the efficacy of virtual experiences and AI in nursing education. Dr. Bumbach aims to address this gap by identifying the most effective ways to integrate these innovative technologies into nursing education to enrich traditional methodologies and improve learning outcomes.
