Originally from Kentucky, I graduated with a medical degree from the University of Cincinnati college of medicine and finished first in my graduating class. I completed my general surgery residency at the University of Virginia, where I received an NIH Fogarty International Fellowship to study access to surgical care, capacity for emergency and essential surgery and educational development, living for two years in Rwanda in East Africa. I subsequently completed my master’s degree in public health at the University of Virginia. I completed my pediatric surgery fellowship training at the Montreal Children’s Hospital/McGill University in Quebec, one of the first five pediatric surgery training programs in North America.

I focus on all aspects of pediatric surgery, with special interest in neonatal surgery, minimally invasive surgery, surgical oncology, and pediatric congenital colorectal conditions.
