Sara Scarlet, MD, MPH

My name is Sara Scarlet, MD, MPH, and I am a clinical assistant professor in the University of Florida Division of Acute Care Surgery. I specialize in trauma and surgical critical care with clinical interests in traumatic injury and abdominal wall surgery. My goal as a trauma surgeon is to prioritize patient-family communication. The process of navigating illness or injury can be challenging for patients and their families, which is why I aim to support and advocate for my patients, be a transparent communicator and ensure that preferences or values align with treatment goals. Each day, I look forward to working to fulfill these important needs.

I completed my undergraduate and medical degree, junior honors medical program, at the University of Florida, followed by a general surgery internship, and residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). Subsequently, I completed a master of public health, part of the Public Health Leadership Program, and a fellowship in surgical critical care at UNC-CH.

My research interests lie at the intersections of trauma, ethics and public health. In particular, I am interested in the ethics of health care for justice-involved individuals.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our children and dogs. You can find us swimming in the springs, hiking the prairie, or exploring the coast.
