My bio

Dr. Sarah E. B. Covey, MD, MPH, is a physician with extensive training across family medicine, complex medical dermatology, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. She completed her residency in Community Health and Family Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine (2023–2025). Her prior training includes a Complex Medical Dermatology Fellowship (2021–2022) and a Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Residency (2019–2021), also at the University of Florida.

Dr. Covey earned both her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Kentucky, where she also completed a policy-focused dissertation examining Kentucky House Bill 1. Her earlier medical training included time as a medical student at UTHealth McGovern Medical School, and she holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Medical Humanities from Baylor University. She also obtained her Emergency Medical Technician certification, trained through Valencia State College. She also served as a high school science teacher and varsity soccer coach immediately prior to matriculating Medical School.

Dr. Covey is an active scholar with numerous peer-reviewed publications spanning dermatopathology, plastic surgery outcomes, reconstructive techniques, pediatric surgery, policy analysis, and healthcare quality improvement. She has authored and co-authored articles in journals including Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The Journal of Surgical Research, The American Surgeon, and The Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. Her work has also been presented at national academic conferences, including the Academic Surgical Congress and Plastic Surgery The Meeting, and she has contributed to book chapters and multiple research abstracts.

With a diverse clinical background, Dr. Covey brings a unique, multidisciplinary lens to patient care. She is passionate about patient education, women’s health, including menopause care, the treatment of dermatologic conditions, aesthetic medicine and procedural care, public health interests, and medical education, and she values the continuity and meaningful relationships built through long-term patient care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Covey enjoys spending time exploring Florida with her family, traveling, reading, attending plays and musicals, racquetball, yoga, and knitting. She especially loves going with her family to Disney World and is active in her church community. She lives in Gainesville with her husband, three children, two dogs, and two three-legged cats.
