Shawn Sussmane, OD : Bio and credentials
Optometrist & Contact Lens Specialist
My bio
Hello, my name is Shawn Sussmane, and I am an assistant professor in the University of Florida Department of Ophthalmology. Some of my clinical interests include specialty contact lenses, dry eyes and cataracts.
Originally from Florida, I moved to Tennessee as a teenager and completed my schooling there. I attended the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and completed my externship at Eyecare Associates in Metairie, Louisiana. Since graduation, I have been working in private practice. Before working at UF, I worked in a multispecialty Ophthalmology/Optometry group practice.
As a child, I had a dog bite injury to my eye and had an initial visit with an Ophthalmologist, followed by several visits with a retina specialist, introducing me to ophthalmology and sparking my interest for this field. I enjoy getting to know the eyecare needs of all my patients and helping them accomplish their goals by explaining and educating them about their eyes and concerns related to eye health.
I am a current member of the American Optometric Association and Florida Optometric Association.
During my free time, I am an avid runner. I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether its hiking, fishing, going to the beach, or traveling.
