My bio

Hello, my name is Steven G. Roth, an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. I completed my undergraduate studies in bioinformatics and computational biology at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2007. After graduating, I worked as an intraoperative neurophysiology technologist, providing crucial information to neuro and orthopedic surgeons to enhance the safety of brain and spinal column procedures. My passion for neuroscience and patient care drove me to pursue higher education. I earned my master’s in physiology and biophysics at Georgetown University and entered Albany Medical College in 2012. During my time in New York, I participated in clinical outcomes research related to electrophysiology and neuromodulation for chronic pain. I was honored to be elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated magna cum laude in 2016.

I then pursued residency training in neurological surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. There, I became proficient in endovascular treatments for conditions such as stroke, cerebral aneurysms, and arteriovenous malformations, in addition to general neurosurgery. I was involved in research through the Vanderbilt Spinal Column Surgical Quality and Outcomes laboratory and the Vanderbilt Cerebrovascular Outcomes and Management research group.

After residency, I was selected for the prestigious Adult and Pediatric Comprehensive Spine Fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian in Manhattan. I split my time between the Columbia University and Weill Cornell campuses and received mentorship from notable orthopedic and neurosurgical faculty members, including Drs. Lawrence G. Lenke, Ronald A. Lehman, K. Daniel Riew, and Dean Chou. During my time at NewYork-Presbyterian, I gained experience with a wide range of spinal pathologies, focusing on complex deformity reconstruction.

In my practice, I specialize in the surgical management of complex spinal disorders, including degenerative conditions, congenital and acquired deformities, intra- and extradural tumors, vascular malformations, trauma, and rheumatologic disorders, using both traditional open and innovative minimally invasive techniques.

I am committed to providing the highest level of care to my patients and the community. I continually work to refine my skills and strive to deliver exceptional neurosurgical care. My patients are always my top priority.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, snowboarding, fishing, and cheering for my hometown teams, the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles.
