About me

Hi, my name is Tamara D. Almeyda, MD, and I am a clinical assistant professor in the University of Florida Department of Psychiatry. I am board certified in psychiatry and neurology with a keen interest in bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorder.

I completed my undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering at the University of Miami and earned my medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. I then pursued a residency in general psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center, where I also served as chief resident.

I have held various administration roles, including clinical associate of psychiatry and clinical instructor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine. I also spent time as medical director of transitions outpatient behavioral health programs and the outpatient clinic for serious mental illness at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Outside of academics, I enjoy conducting research on topics such as catatonic psychosis and response to benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and electroconvulsive therapy. I’m also interested in ongoing research since 2014 on catatonic psychosis and its response to benzodiazepines, antipsychotics and electroconvulsive therapy.

In my spare time, I enjoy knitting and crafting.
