My bio

My health care journey began when I received my MD in 1984 from the prestigious Assiut University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. I continued my medical training at Assiut University, completing a residency in orthopaedics in 1989 while simultaneously earning a masters in orthopaedics in 1988. I followed this with a PhD in orthopaedics in 1993.

I pursued several fellowships, starting in 1991 with a fellowship in hand surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. This was before completing a fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and Medical College in Taiwan in 1995. In 1997, I finished an Ilizarov reconstructive orthopaedics fellowship at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (CITO) in Moscow, Russia.

In 2001, I had the privilege of establishing the Reconstructive Microsurgery Center at Assiut University Hospitals. It became a leading center in the Middle East, offering services to a wide population of patients, including those from neighboring countries. This center has also been a hub for training numerous national and international fellows.

With a focus on sharing my expertise, Ive mentored and supervised more than 60 master's and PhD candidates and co-founded the International Brachial Plexus School, which provides hands-on training in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of brachial plexus injuries through international platforms in Spain, India, Egypt, and Mexico. Recognizing my work in orthopaedics, I was elected the inaugural president of the Egyptian Society of Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery in 2009. Internationally, I have served as a visiting professor at several esteemed institutions, society meetings, and workshops worldwide, as well as a reviewer for several hand and microsurgery journals.

Outside of work, I cherish spending quality time with my family, listening to country music, gardening, and breeding and riding horses.
