Sign up for a free abdominal aortic aneurysm screening at this event! There are 2 appointments available per time slot.

6-8 hours of fasting is recommended for this screening. If you need to take medication, take it as normally scheduled with a small amount of water.

An AAA occurs when there is a swelling or bulging in the portion of the aorta located in the abdomen. The bulging is caused by the pressure of blood pumping through areas where the wall of the aorta has weakened. Because the section of the aorta is weakened, it has the potential to either rupture (burst) or dissect (layers of the abdominal aortic wall separate) which can cause life-threatening, uncontrolled internal bleeding. Risk factors include being a smoker (current or history of smoking), being over the age of 60, being male (incidence in males is 4 to 5 times greater than in females), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight, atherosclerosis (plaque in the artery walls) or having a connective tissue disorder (Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Loeys-Dietz syndrome).
