Message from Dr. David S. Guzick
Welcome to the University of Florida Health Science Center, which consists of six colleges that work in close collaboration with Shands.
Although the HSC and Shands are distinct legal entities, we work together as UF Health. Our mission is to promote health through outstanding patient care, innovative and rigorous education in the health professions and biomedical sciences, and high-impact research across the spectrum of basic, translational and clinical investigation.
Based in Gainesville on the campus of the University of Florida, the colleges of the UF Health Science Center are: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine. Also located on the HSC campus in Gainesville is UF Health Shands Hospital (an 830-bed hospital that serves the medical needs of our 13-county region and receives tertiary and quaternary referrals from throughout Florida and the Southeast), the UF Health Shands Cancer Center, and five research institutes — the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Emerging Pathogens Institute, Genetics Institute, Institute on Aging and McKnight Brain Institute.
Jacksonville is home to a large and important regional campus of UF Health, including three colleges (Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy), the internationally acclaimed UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, and UF Health Jacksonville, a 550-bed, general medical-surgical facility that serves five counties in North Florida, including a level 1 trauma center.
The co-location of a premiere teaching hospital, six health profession colleges, and associated research centers and institutes under unified leadership on the main campus of a major university is unique among academic health centers in the United States. We take great pride in an unusually high level of interaction and collaboration among faculty, students and staff across disciplines and across missions.
Please explore our website and let us know how we can serve your needs.
