Health Science Center - Patient Care

The University of Florida Health Science Center is dedicated to providing quality health care to the citizens of Florida and to advancing the practice of patient care.

The HSC is closely affiliated with UF Health. UF Health is committed to delivering essential care to residents living in the local communities it serves; offering advanced diagnostic and medical services; and pioneering and providing sophisticated treatments that draw patients nationally for highly specialized, complex care. The health care system includes a medical staff of more than 1,500 UF faculty and community doctors who practice alongside 12,000 Shands employees and 1,500 Shands volunteers. College of Medicine physicians are affiliated with two primary teaching facilities, UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville, as well as other Shands hospitals

UF Health has two teaching hospitals and two specialty hospitals, including the academic medical centers UF Health Shands Hospital, with 852 beds in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville with 695 beds. Together with clinical programs and services across all HSC colleges, the UF Health partnership is helping to create Florida’s future health-care workforce. UF also provides Level 1 trauma care for north central Florida in Gainesville and Jacksonville and highly specialized cancer treatments through the UF Proton Therapy Institute and the UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital at UF. The HSC also maintains strong ties to the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
