Ian R. Driscoll, MD, FACS, is an associate professor of surgery in the Division of Acute Care Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine. His primary clinical practice is in burn surgery at the UF Health Shands Burn Center.

Dr. Driscoll is a board-certified surgeon with sub-specialty training in burn surgery and surgical critical care. He earned his medical degree from the UF College of Medicine in 2006. He completed a residency in general surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC, devoting a year of his training to research at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD. While on active duty with the US Army, he completed a burn surgery fellowship at the US Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR), at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Upon leaving military service, Dr. Driscoll completed a fellowship in surgical critical care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Dr. Driscoll served in the US Army from 2002 to 2017. Stateside, his roles included burn trauma surgeon and intensivist at the US Army Burn Center and Brooke Army Medical Center as well as medical director for the US Army Burn Flight Team, responsible for aeromedical evacuation of critically injured burn patients for the Department of Defense. He served as a surgeon during multiple combat deployments and as an instructor for combat casualty care-oriented training for the Department of Defense and internationally. He has earned various military awards, including the Combat Action Badge, Army Aviation Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and NATO Medal.

Dr. Driscoll is devoted to the education of trainees in medicine and allied health professions, multidisciplinary providers of burn care, and community partners. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Society for Burn Injuries, the American Burn Association, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Dr. Driscoll has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications.

His clinical interests include burn resuscitation and reconstruction, surgical critical care, renal replacement therapy, care in the austere environment and aero-medical evacuation.
