Jason E. Blatt, MD, FAANS, is a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he was a national merit scholar and graduated magna cum laude. While in Nashville, his honors included election to Alpha Epsilon Delta, Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa and Sigma Delta Pi, as well as a distinguished service key from Alpha Phi Omega. He then completed his medical degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and received the Harold C. Pillsbury Student Research Award.

After receiving his medical degree, he remained at the University of North Carolina to complete his internship and residency in neurosurgical surgery. He received numerous awards during his training, including the Hydrocephalus Association Award and the Resident Traveling Fellowship, from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)/Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery. Dr. Blatt was elected to UNC’s Academy of Educators and was named a socioeconomic fellow of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies. Finally, he relocated to Pittsburgh to complete a prestigious subspecialty fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

In July 2017, Dr. Blatt joined the University of Florida Department of Neurosurgery faculty as an assistant professor. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery, and his clinical interests include all aspects of pediatric neurosurgery, with a special focus on the treatment of brain tumors, epilepsy, congenital spinal disorders and minimally invasive and transnasal brain surgery. His research interests include all aspects of pediatric neurosurgery, in addition to medical and surgical education, surgical simulation and physician process automation. He collaborates with computer brain modeling researchers at Old Dominion University and UF and with the large brain tumor immunotherapy team at UF Health Shands and the McKnight Brain Institute. He is a board member of the Florida Neurosurgical Society and holds multiple appointed liaison positions between the AANS/CNS Section on Pediatric Neurosurgery and other national neurosurgical organizations.

Dr. Blatt is passionate about the care and well-being of children and prides himself on the ability to make complex neurosurgical decisions easy to understand for patients and their families. Caring for an ill child is never easy, but Dr. Blatt and his team strive to alleviate worry and suffering and provide world-class care for children of all ages. The UF Health pediatric neurosurgery team recognizes that children with brain and spine disorders are not just “small adults” and need to be treated by expert subspecialists with extensive experience. UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital accepts all pediatric neurosurgery patients for assessments and second opinions.
