About me

I am an assistant professor in the University of Florida Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the UF College of Medicine and co-director of the UF Craniofacial Center. I lead a specialized velopharyngeal incompetence practice that evaluates children with speech problems caused when the velopharynx, located in the back of the mouth, does not work normally. I also work closely with UF’s Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery, Dr. Lance Governale, to provide individualized care for patients with craniosynostosis.

I am trained in all aspects of plastic surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic. My clinical focuses in general pediatric plastic surgery, cranial vault surgery, orthognathic surgery, cleft surgery and facial reconstruction. My research interests are in craniosynostosis and psychosocial disabilities, as well as facial trauma.

I earned my medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. I completed my plastic surgery residency at the University of South Florida and a craniofacial fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto.

I have authored several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed medical journals. I have presented my work at various professional conferences. I am also an invited expert for an international consensus panel on facial trauma in war and austere conditions.

My areas of focus

Many people think that care for craniofacial differences and cleft begins and ends with a surgery. In reality, we're with these patients every step of the way.
