John C Smulian, MD., M.P.H.
Dr. John Smulian is the B.L. Stalnacker professor and chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at UF Health Shands Hospital. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal and fetal medicine and has a certification in neonatal resuscitation.
He received his bachelor’s degree in natural science from Johns Hopkins University, then attended Tulane University, where he achieved both his medical degree and master’s in public health. Following graduation, Dr. Smulian completed his residency with the department of obstetrics and gynecology at Emory University before completing his fellowship in the division of maternal and fetal medicine at the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Smulian has extensive experience in the academic realm as well, training a new generation of medical students as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at a variety of medical schools across the United States. Named the 2017 Physician of the Year by the March of Dimes, Northeast Pennsylvania Market, Dr. Smulian has a strong interest in providing the highest-quality clinical care in all aspects of women’s health. In 2012, he was awarded the Semmelweis Award; a legacy award for education granted by the Lehigh Valley Health Network. He has also been awarded for his numerous journal contributions and is included in the “Best Doctors in America” database.
