Colon and Rectal Surgeon

About me

I was drawn to colon and rectal surgery because of its ability to cure early stage cancer. There is no greater gift then life itself. In my role as assistant professor and colon and rectal surgeon at the University of Florida Department of Surgery, I prioritize treating every patient like family and providing attentive, personalized care. I enjoy getting to know each one of my patients. I spend my days restoring continence, healing fistulas, alleviating pain and sometimes taking the time to make a really good ostomy to help patients live fuller and more vibrant lives.

I attended medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport and moved thereafter to complete my residency at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. During my residency, I completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer biology at the Massey Cancer Center in Richmond and became administrative chief resident. Following this, I completed a colon and rectal surgery residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C.

I am a member of the Association for Academic Surgery, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. I have also been granted several awards, including the resident teaching award, administrative chief resident award, and Virginia Commonwealth University Humanism in Medicine and Excellence in Teaching Award.

Besides the enjoyment of my practice, I enjoy being a mother of two and wife. We are happy residents of the Gainesville community and enjoy all that North Florida has to offer: SEC sports, springs, fishing and beaches.
