Description

Laser hair removal is a permanent solution to unwanted body hair.

Why the procedure is performed

Laser hair removal is permanent hair removal to eliminate or reduce the frequency of shaving or waxing.

Risks

Pain during the procedure, swelling, redness at the treatment site, blisters, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, hair that is resistant to treatment

Before the procedure

  • A consult will be done to review treatment and expectations. A “test patch” with the laser will be performed at the consult.
  • Avoid sun exposure for three weeks before the procedure. Limit plucking, waxing, and electrolysis for six weeks before treatment.

After the procedure

Avoid direct sun exposure after the procedure. Use sun protection or SPF when outside.

Outlook (Prognosis)

A hair reduction of up to 80% is seen after 4 to 6 visits. Further hair reduction can be accomplished with additional visits.
