Our visitation policy is designed to support patient- and family-centered care throughout your stay and to ensure the safety of all of our patients, visitors and staff. Please take a few minutes to review the information on this page with your family and friends ahead of their visit. UF Health Durbin Park Hospital is committed to providing visitation in accordance with our nondiscrimination policy, which provides access without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, disability, age, religion, marital status, citizenship, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation and/or other legally protected classification.
Visiting hours
Family and friends are encouraged to visit patients between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Patients may have an overnight visitor in their rooms, if the condition of the patient and space allow. Adults staying overnight must be able to care for themselves. Visitors are encouraged to leave the facility after visiting hours are over to promote rest and healing for our patients. Sleeping overnight in the visitor waiting rooms is not permitted.
Policy
Patients have the right to refuse visitors; however, visitor limitations cannot be monitored by hospital employees.
Visitors are permitted access to patient rooms with the consent of the patient and in accordance with the unit’s specific procedures. As a patient, you have the right to receive the visitors you designate, including — but not limited to — a spouse, domestic partner of the same or opposite sex, other family member or friend. You have the right to withdraw or deny your consent at any time.
- A family member, friend, or other individual is permitted to act as a patient support person. This representative may be with the patient during visitation hours unless the individual’s presence infringes on the rights and safety of others or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated.
- Children younger than 16 will be permitted visitation based on the patient’s condition and approval by healthcare staff. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
- Visitors may be asked to leave the room for patient care or treatments, unexpected or urgent situations, or if they cause disruptions.
- Disruptive visitor behavior that impacts patient safety, hospital employees or others is not permitted.
- All visitors, including children, who are sick should not come to the hospital to see patients.
- Some units limit the number of visitors in patient rooms.
- Ask your nurse about the number of visitors allowed in your room.
- Food brought to the hospital should be kept to a minimum because some patients may have dietary restrictions. Before giving food to any patient, please be sure it is approved by a nurse or physician. Food preparation is not permitted in waiting rooms.
- All visitors must follow isolation policies.
- You will not be allowed to enter the property with firearms, knives or other weapons.
- The UF Health campus is smoke-free, tobacco-free and vapefree. Smoking, vaping or the use of other tobacco products by patients, visitors and employees is not permitted.
- Alcohol, drugs and other contraband are not permitted on UF Health Durbin Park property.
- Visitors coming to see patients who are currently under special observation status, such as suicide precautions or Baker Act, may be subject to additional restrictions.
Cell phones and other electronic communication devices
Our goal is to maintain an environment that promotes rest and healing for our patients. To do that, we ask all patients and visitors to follow these guidelines:
- Be mindful of the volume level of ring tones and alert notifications, as well as the noise level when talking on a cell phone. Visitors are encouraged to limit use of their phones to non-patient care areas, if possible.
- Patient safety and privacy are top priorities at UF Health Durbin Park Hospital. You may be asked to restrict mobile use in certain areas.
- Visitors are not allowed to take photographs or make video and/or audio recordings of other patients, visitors, staff members or physicians without that individual’s permission. Photography, video and audio recordings that are undertaken for the patient or at the request of the patient are appropriate as long as they do not violate any policy or the privacy of other patients or interfere with the care of patients.
