Interpreter Services at UF Health St. Johns
UF Health St. Johns is committed to helping patients clearly understand their care.
Free interpreter and communication services are available to patients and caregivers at all UF Health St. Johns locations who need language or communication support.
Interpreter services are offered for:
- Patients who speak a language other than English
- Patients who are deaf or have limited hearing
- Patients with speech, vision or other communication needs such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease
Services may include:
- Video remote interpretation
- Telephone interpretation
- Qualified in‑person interpreters, when available
- Communication aids and plain‑language or translated materials
What You Can Expect
- Interpreter services are provided at no cost
- Interpreters are qualified, confidential and trained for health care settings
- Services are available for registration, medical visits, treatment discussions, consent forms and discharge instructions
- You may request an interpreter at any point during your visit

You may also contact the director of risk management and patient safety, who is designated to coordinate UF Health St. Johns’ efforts to comply with Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination in health programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability (the Section 1557 Coordinator).

Filing a Grievance
UF Health St. Johns has adopted an internal grievance procedure to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging actions prohibited by Section 1557 and its implementing regulations at 45 C.F.R. Part 92, issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Information about Section 1557 and its implementing regulations is available from the director of risk management and patient safety, who is designated to coordinate UF Health St. Johns’ compliance with Section 1557 (the Section 1557 coordinator).
