Pharmaceutical firm awards research grant to UF cardiology fellow

Solvay Pharmaceuticals Inc. has awarded UF cardiology fellow Dr. Gregory O. von Mering, one of five research grants given annually to promising researchers involved in the study of hypertension.

Von Mering, who is affiliated with the division of cardiovascular medicine at UF’s College of Medicine, will receive nearly $20,000 for his research project titled “Effects of ACE inhibition on vascular function in women.” His work will focus on examining the effects of the class of medications known as ACE inhibitors on the mechanical and functional properties of arteries in women with disorders of the heart’s smaller vessels.

Solvay also sponsored von Mering’s attendance at the annual meeting of the American Society of Hypertension, held May 16-17 in New York.
