UF College of Medicine faculty member elected into American Society of Transplantation
Dr. Vikas R. Dharnidharka, an assistant professor in the division of pediatric nephrology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, recently was elected into the American Society of Transplantation.
Membership in the society is restricted to professionals working in the clinical or basic science fields of transplantation, and requires proof of published or clinical work. New members must be nominated by two active members of the society.
Dharnidharka’s basic science research focuses on reducing rates of transplanted organ rejection, as well as autoimmune diseases, in which the body mistakenly attacks some of its own tissues. Dharnidharka’s clinical interest is in lymphoproliferative disorder, a complication of transplantation.
Comprised of 1,300 physicians and scientists, the American Society of Transplantation is an organization of professionals dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplantation science and medicine.
