UF professor in line to lead regional surgical society

Dr. Edward M. Copeland III, chairman of the University of Florida College of Medicine’s department of surgery, recently was chosen to serve as president-elect of the Southeastern Surgical Congress.

Copeland, the Edward R. Woodward professor of surgery, has been an active member of the Southeastern Surgical Congress since 1977. As president-elect until 2001, Copeland will serve on the organization’s governing board. He will then serve as president of the organization from 2001 to 2002.

The Southeastern Surgical Congress provides opportunities for surgeons and surgeons-in-training to come together for educational, scientific, and social purposes. The organization has more than 3,000 members, making it the largest regional surgical society.
