Dental student awarded prestigious dental academy award

University of Florida College of Dentistry student Demetrick LeCorn has received the 2001 Pierre Fauchard Academy Dental Student Scholarship Award.

Gary E. Herbeck, D.M.D., a 1978 graduate of the college and the academy’s new Florida section chairman, presented LeCorn, a senior, with a check for $1,500.

The Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international fraternity established in 1936, has members in more than 60 countries. The group honors exemplary dental professionals and students who demonstrate that they will be leaders in their field. Each dental school’s administration submits to the academy the name of a deserving senior student.

LeCorn was selected based on his academic record and mentorship activities. He is the president of the Student National Dental Association and a member of the American Student Dental Association. He also assists the college’s multicultural affairs office in its recruitment efforts.
