National graduate student organization honors UF’s department of clinical and health psychology

The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students has named the University of Florida College of Health Professions’ department of clinical and health psychology the 2001 Department of the Year.

The honor is given each year to a student-nominated graduate psychology department that exemplifies outstanding commitment to graduate students and demonstrates excellent faculty-student relations. The award was presented at the American Psychological Association’s recent annual meeting in San Francisco.

“In our nomination we emphasized the superior mentorship students receive and the success our department has had in producing high-quality professionals,” said Amy Baughcum, M.S., a clinical and health psychology graduate student. “We also highlighted the improvements that have been made in the curriculum and practica offerings as well as the activism of the students. This program is particularly strong in keeping current with the field and forging new frontiers.”

The UF department is one of 209 accredited graduate clinical psychology programs in the nation and one of 460 programs to offer accredited internships.

“This department is training the leaders of the future,” said Ronald Rozensky, Ph.D., department chairman. “The Department of the Year honor is wonderful affirmation of the atmosphere of collegiality between our students and faculty.”
