Two UF obstetrics and gynecology residents receive honors

Two residents in the University of Florida College of Medicine’s obstetrics and gynecology department recently received honors for achievements in their field.

Dr. Heather DiMaio was one of nine residents in the country to recently receive the Parke-Davis Scholar Award, sponsored by Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals and the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics. A panel of senior professors selected the winners from a pool of 68 nominees on the basis of excellence in teaching.

DiMaio, a third-year resident, received a $1,000 travel grant to attend the joint annual meeting of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology held in Orlando in March.

The Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics promotes excellence in women's health-care education. The Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology strives to facilitate and promote excellence in residency education in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Brenda Shoup completed a fellowship during the late fall at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Through the Felix Rutledge fellowship in gynecologic oncology, she completed a one-month program focusing on patients with gynecologic malignancies. From nationwide applications, one third-year resident is selected each month for the fellowship.
