UF College of Dentistry’s Gremillion named LSU alumnus of the year

Henry A. Gremillion, D.D.S., associate professor of orthodontics at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, has been named the 2001 Louisiana State University School of Dentistry alumnus of the year.

Gremillion, a native Louisianan who received his undergraduate degree from LSU prior to receiving a degree in 1977 from the LSU School of Dentistry, received his award at the school’s annual Alumni Day. He also presented a lecture on the future of diagnosis and management of orofacial pain and implications for the private practitioner.

While in private practice in Louisiana, Gremillion was active in national, state and local groups of the American Dental Association. He is a former president of the Louisiana Academy of General Dentistry and vice president of Region XII of the Academy of General Dentistry.

Gremillion, who has been at UF since 1989, is director of the Parker E. Mahan Facial Pain Center. He also has an affiliate appointment in the College of Dentistry’s prosthodontics department.

Gremillion is a national and international lecturer on topics including the diagnosis and management of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain, occlusion and anatomy. He has earned many awards, including the Professionalism and Ethics Faculty Award from the American College of Dentists, Florida Section, and the Faculty of the Year award from College of Dentistry Class of 2000. He also belongs to numerous organizations. In addition, he serves as a consultant for groups such as the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force and the Gainesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and is an associate faculty member of the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education.
