UF College of Veterinary Medicine’s “TeamVetMed” raises $18,000 in pledges for student scholarships, other needs
It may be that no pain yields no gain, but most would agree that things generally go better -- at least when it comes to sports -- if you train.
Many cyclists who participated in this year’s Team Vet Med had been in training for several weeks or longer for the Horse Farm 100 ride that is conducted each fall as part of the Gainesville Cycling Club-sponsored cycling festival.
Others hadn’t been on a bike in months.
But nearly all rode -- in various levels of pain -- to the 100 mile finish to collect more than $18,000 in pledges from various sponsors.
It is rumored that a few even had fun.
The money will go to support student scholarships and other special needs at the college. The dean issued special thanks to Sean Nickerson, Ellis Greiner, Wendy Norman and An Nguyen for holding the team together during training sessions and during the ride, and to Bill Castleman for his excellent photos.
