UF doctoral student appointed to national psychology organization

Chris Loftis, M.S., a doctoral student in the College of Health Professions’ department of clinical and health psychology, has been elected chairman of the American Psychological Association for Graduate Students for 2001-2004.

The organization is the American Psychological Association’s largest subcommittee and has a membership of 50,000 undergraduate and graduate psychology students. The group implements governance initiatives and policies, develops resources to meet the information and advocacy needs of members and provides leadership opportunities and convention programming.

“I am eager to continue working to empower and enhance the welfare of today’s graduate students and tomorrow’s psychologists,” Loftis said.

Loftis said he plans to focus on promoting the integration of psychological research and practice, expanding opportunities for professional development and encouraging students to pursue leadership in professional organizations.
