UF medical students named to leadership positions in national association

Two University of Florida College of Medicine students recently were named to leadership positions in the American Medical Student Association.

Second-year student Scott Howard and third-year student Shin Lin were selected for their new yearlong positions at the organization’s annual convention held this spring in California. Howard has been named co-coordinator for the Medical Education Action Committee, and Lin is co-coordinator of the Medical Student Well Being Project.

Howard is focusing on creating resources to help students build their careers. He also is reinforcing the goals of the Medical Education Action Committee, striving to ensure that students receive training that prepares them to be competent, caring physicians, and helping students understand their options in medicine, as well as in areas such as industry and politics.

Lin is aiming to promote an environment where students can share problems and have resources available when they need help. She also is working to plan national and regional retreats for medical students to help them rejuvenate and learn from others’ experiences.

With a membership of more than 30,000, the American Medical Student Association is the nation's largest independent medical student organization.
