UF nurse midwife wins two national awards

The American College of Nurse Midwives has honored a University of Florida College of Nursing assistant professor with two national awards for her dedication to her profession and for excellence in teaching.

For the second consecutive year, Alice Poe, M.N., C.N.M., F.A.C.N.M. was presented the ACNM Excellence in Teaching Award, an honor given to the person who receives the most student votes from his/her institution.

Poe, who works in the department of women's, children's and family nursing at the UF Health Science Center’s campus in Jacksonville, also received the ACNM Region III Award for Excellence in Practice, Education or Research for her many contributions to the nurse midwifery profession. This award was determined by a vote of practicing nurse midwives from nine southeastern states. The awards were presented at the ACNM's national meeting, held in June in Washington, D.C.

Poe also completed her third year as president of the ACNM Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization affiliated with ACNM that raises funds to support nurse-midwifery practice, education and research.

Poe teaches nurse midwifery courses and supervises both undergraduate and graduate student practica. She conducts research on topics related to women's health and midwifery professional issues and education and is a practicing nurse midwife.
