UF nurse researcher receives Gerontological Society of America award
Bryan A. Weber, A.R.N.P., Ph.D., an assistant professor at the University of Florida College of Nursing, has been recognized nationally for his research on improving the quality of life for men surviving prostate cancer.
The Gerontological Society of America honored Weber with the Clinical Medicine Research Award at the organization’s recent annual meeting in Chicago. The award is given to a new investigator in the Clinical Medicine Section, which furthers scientific study of the aging process in humans by advancing methods used to diagnose and treat aging-related illnesses or disabilities.
In his current research project, called Friends-for-Life, Weber is studying whether a one-on-one support system is an acceptable and effective means for men to deal with the emotional consequences of prostate cancer and its treatment. The project is funded by a $142,000 grant from the National Cancer Institute.
Weber, a family nurse practitioner and researcher, also is a core faculty member with the UF Institute on Aging. He joined the UF College of Nursing faculty in July 2001.
