UF obstetrics and gynecology fellow receives national research scholarship
A University of Florida College of Medicine obstetrics and gynecology fellow recently won a national scholarship from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Dr. Rodney Edwards, a second-year fellow in the UF division of maternal-fetal medicine, received the two-year, $95,000 award. The scholarship is designed to enhance the quality of research done by those entering maternal-fetal medicine, facilitate the retention of fellows pursuing a career in academic medicine and improve the health care of pregnant women and their infants. As a condition of the scholarship, the department of obstetrics and gynecology is contributing an additional $35,000.
The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine is a not-for-profit organization of approximately 2,000 members dedicated to improving the health care of pregnant women and their infants.
Edwards, who is researching a variety of topics related to the detection and treatment of bacterial infections in pregnant women, also recently received a $20,000 research grant from the Children’s Miracle Network. The international nonprofit organization raises funds for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America.
