UF psychiatrist appointed associate dean of managed care and faculty practice

Martin Lazoritz, M.D., has been named associate dean of managed care and faculty practice for the University of Florida College of Medicine.

Kenneth I. Berns, M.D., Ph.D., vice president for health affairs and dean of the College of Medicine, appointed Lazoritz to oversee managed care issues and serve as an adviser to UF’s Faculty Group Practice.

Lazoritz is associate chairman of the psychiatry department and medical director of Shands at Vista mental health hospital in Gainesville.

In his new position, Lazoritz hopes to partner with Shands HealthCare to build a stronger bargaining unit for negotiating with managed care companies.

Lazoritz is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

After completing his residency with UF’s College of Medicine, he served on the UF faculty from 1975 to 1977. He rejoined the faculty in January 2000.
