Dr. William Enneking wins national recognition in orthopaedics education
William F. Enneking, M.D., a distinguished service professor emeritus of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Florida College of Medicine, has been recognized by the American Orthopaedic Association as an outstanding teacher and clinician in orthopaedic medicine.
Enneking was awarded the first American Orthopaedic Association-Smith & Nephew Endoscopy Distinguished Clinician Educator Award June 1 at the association’s annual meeting in Victoria, British Columbia. He received $25,000 and a plaque.
Enneking, who also serves as the Eugene L. Jewett professor of orthopaedic surgery, joined the UF faculty in 1960 as chief of the department of surgery’s division of orthopaedic surgery. Later, he spent 20 years as chairman of what is now called the department of orthopaedics and rehabilitation. An international leader in his field, he has been recognized for developing pioneering treatments for bone and muscle diseases, including a limb-saving treatment for bone cancers. He is a past president of the American Orthopaedic Association.
