Duncan and Gonzalez-Rothi recognized for careers in rehabilitation research
Two University of Florida researchers have received the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Senior Rehabilitation Research Career Scientist award. Pamela Duncan, Ph.D., director of the UF Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Studies, and Leslie Gonzalez-Rothi, Ph.D., a professor of neurology in the College of Medicine, were recognized as international leaders in their fields of science with successful records of VA research support. They will receive salary support for five years for their positions with the Malcom Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville.
Duncan, also a professor of health services administration at UF’s College of Health Professions and director of the Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center at the VA Medical Center, conducts research on assessment of outcomes in stroke patients, patterns of recovery and randomized clinical trials on rehabilitation intervention.
Gonzalez-Rothi is program director for the VA Medical Center’s Brain Rehabilitation Research Center. She focuses her studies on the development of innovative treatments for cognitive or motor deficits resulting from brain and nervous system disease or injury.
