Guest lecturer Yosaif August to discuss special environment designed to enhance healing

“Creating Sacred Space for Patient Healing” will be the topic of a public lecture Thursday, Nov. 7, by Yosaif August, creator of Bedscapes, a special environment in which nature pictures and sounds are used to produce a therapeutic effect.

August’s presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Gainesville, on the corner of Northwest 17th Street and 5th Avenue. It is sponsored by the UF Center for Spirituality and Health and the UF Health and Arts in Medicine Program.

Bedscapes is in use in at more than 50 hospitals, nursing homes and hospices in the United States and has won the Nightingale Best of Competition Healthcare Design Award, as well as an award from the American Society on Aging. August also is the founder/director of BETH, a wellness demonstration project at Bellevue Hospital in New York City.
